“”I Love This” is an Understatement” 2009-07-23

I was a bit hesitant to get this DVD because of the many reviews about the grainy quality of several of the videos, but Billie Jean and The Way You Make Me Feel are two of my all-time favorite MJ songs and I decided I’d rather have poor quality ones than none at all. But I am glad I knew this before purchasing, otherwise I might have been disappointed. As a result, I accepted it and wasn’t going to let that stop me from enjoying them. A surprise on this DVD for me was Remember the Time. I thought it was going to be a bit corny, but it ended up being one of my favorite Michael Jackson videos ever! You get to see his fun, comical side, yet also has his killer dance moves and voice. The dance sequence in this has to be seen, words cannot describe. For me, this performance confirms why Michael is and always will be one of the premier performers of all time. And I also love the dance sequence in Black or White. The way he moves is just beautiful and he looks gorgeous. I can’t believe this segment was cut out of some versions, it’s the best part! I also love BAD. It really makes me wish Michael had filmed West Side Story. Let’s just say I LOVE this DVD and it makes a very nice set with HIStory – Vol. II. I honestly don’t think I could pick a favorite between the two.

No doubt about it, a must-have for any so-called MJ fan. I bought this over a decade ago, and I’m proud and grateful to share this with my 5-year-old who will never know a world where Michael Jackson ruled as a prince in the musical kingdom.

DO NOT GET VOL. 2. If you want to know why, make sure you read my review on that particular purchase. Or rather, get it but KNOW what does and does not come on that DVD.

Great collection of videos. For those person whining about the quality, a reminder that some of these videos were filmed in the late 80s early 90s when some of the high end audio-visuals we have now were only concepts. The quality is not today’s standards but back in the day it was revolutionary. Context people. Besides I find the whole thing very nostalgic. The sound and quality is not a problem on my portable dvd. The kids love watching it in the car, they have their own little concert in the backseat.

“Chosing Just One is the Dilemma” 2009-07-22

Originally I had only planned to buy one Michael Jackson DVD, but could not decide between this one and MJ Greatest Hits Video – HIStory. The reason being, I was leaning toward this one, but I wanted the original version of Billie Jean, not the Motown one, which is on this DVD. This one won out because it had later videos on it. And I’m not sorry I chose it. The Motown Billie Jean is awesome. What it did do was whet my appetite! I ended up buying the other DVD as well. And though there are a few repeats on it, they make a very nice set. I have favorites on each. I think any MJ fan wouldn’t mind having both and if you can only get one, it’s a matter of deciding which are your very favorites of his videos(if you can!)and let that be your deciding factor. I’m not going to list and critique each video here, because others have already helpfully done so. Had the original Billie Jean video been on this one, I might not ever have purchased the other one and I would have really been missing out on a lot of Michael’s classic videos. Yet I love this one for the more recent videos on it. Smooth Criminal is my favorite on this one and the MTV performance is a close second. I also love You Are Not Alone, Stranger in Moscow and Blood on the Dance Floor. I only wish Michael was still with us.

“Though a bit disappointing, still delivers” 2009-07-21

I owned “Michael Jackson – History on Film vol. 2” for years. I’ve always wanted to get the second installment, but never did for one reason or another. When Michael died, I knew it was time.

I watched it for the first time tonight, and I’m very bitter about two things. “Thriller” and “Beat It“‘s videos were repeated on vol. 2 when they already appeared on vol. 1. I wouldn’t have minded a live version or either video, or maybe a “making of”. I was disappointed for their repeats, when there were several videos that could have taken their place, like “Dirty Diana”, “Keep it In the Closet”, “Leave Me Alone”, etc. that would have been splendid.

Having said that, there are three points of highlight that makes this DVD worthwhile: the 1995 MTV Music Awards performance (OMG) and “Scream”, which in its day was the most expensive video ever made, and the only one Michael did with Janet. Last but not least, the first public performance of the moonwalk, on Motown’s “25: Yesterday, Today and Forever”, which rumored that MJ wasn’t intending on performing in originally. Aren’t we glad that he did?

Make sure you know what you’re getting before purchasing. For my money, I would have bought vol.1 only.

I love this DVD, A special surprise was Michael’s sexy video, “Blood on the Dance Floor (Refugee Remix).” Smoking hot! Loved Michael’s look in this video. This made it so worth it for me to purchase. But frankly, he can sing the phone book on video and I would buy it.
Also loved “Brace Yourself.” Definitely buy this. Michael fans will be blown away…

I always admired Michael’s work I grew up liking the Jackson 5 and who didn’t like Thriller? He has a special talent in music and how he performed his music through videos. I am so happy I ordered this!! I never saw Childhood, They don’t care about us, Stranger in Moscow and Blood on the dance floor until I viewed this and I am speechless!! Earth Song shows a strong message. The whole cd has so much energy you can’t sit still watching it!! Michael was a special person! Such a great talent gone too soon!! I’m happy I grew up in the same era Michael grew up and remember what a great talent he is and always will be!! Thank You Michael!!

I am disappointed in the quality of this disc and surprised by the positive reviews here. If you watch this on an LCD TV, the videos look pretty bad. None of it is in wide-screen and the video is grainy. It’s worse than most DVDs. I know that the videos were shot for MTV, but I don’t remember the videos being this fuzzy. I guess if you watch it on an old tube TV, it may look better. I’ve got DVD discs of Madonna and U2 with videos that came out about the same time, and they look great on the new TVs.

You would think that they would have put some of these videos on Blu-ray by now. Now that he’s passed, maybe they’re working on it. They put some pretty crappy stuff on Blu-ray. Even Hannah Montana is on Blu-ray. They haven’t even remastered Jackson’s videos for HD TVs while Hannah Montana has 2 blu-ray discs out.

Being a fan of michael jackson for all his career as i am 51 and saw him when i was 16 in rhode island (thrill of my teenage life); i didnt expect anything less of him than amazing. let alone his performance it was surreal to see that amount of people, literally a sea of people watching him without blinking. dancing, singing (which was live)was Michael all the way. i am still grieving and he still plays on in my car, my office, my heart.

he gives his backups the stage, acknowledges his brothers at one point and one girl had her day when he took her on stage to dance and hug her…i wonder what she is doing today 17 years later?

enjoy enjoy enjoy! and definitely buy – if not for yourself for your kids to have….he is a legend and there truly will be no one else like him. bigger than the beatles…

I was already a teenager when The Jackson 5 came along, but I was swept up with their act and the brilliance of a 11 year old Michael (who looked even younger than that). I saw them perform live in LA at the Forum. After that I moved around a lot so I never got to see Michael perform solo. I regret that, but I’m proud to say I’m still a fan. This concert is awesome and well worth buying and watching. If you can’t see his talent, you just aren’t paying attention. I recommend this DVD. My only question… this was the Dangerous tour… and yet.. Michael never performed “Dangerous” during the concert… however it’s still worth owning.

After reading some of the reviews, I almost didn’t order this, but decided to check it out on YouTube before making a decision. I was very impressed with what I saw and ordered it immediately, and I’m so glad I did! Though I was never fortunate enough to see Michael live in concert(and seeing this really makes me wish I had), I feel this performance really shows the amazing connection he had with his fans and how he put everything into his performances. Yes, he gets a bit out of breath in some of the songs, but who wouldn’t after dancing on the level he does? I think it just adds to the excitement and spontaneity of the concert. I also think if there weren’t any crowd shots, it wouldn’t convey the connection he had with the audience as much. My favorite moment is when a fan comes up on stage and embraces Michael while he is singing. I was also wondering if this DVD might be a bit repetitious since I already have three DVD’s of his video performances, but no, this live performance is totally different. Plus, I never get tired of watching him. I highly recommend this to any fan that loves Michael and enjoys watching and hearing his incredible talent. Especially since, sadly, there will not be any more chances to see him in concert. I was also very pleased with the picture and sound quality of this DVD. Michael, your fans love you and will never forget you!
